Taşhan in Laleli was built during the same time with Laleli Social Complex. Its original name was Sipahi Han and was first built to host visitors but later it was used as a military barrack for janissaries. In the Republican Period, it was used as a timber storage until 1990s. Later in 1993, its renovation started under the supervision of Council of Monuments. The renovation was completed in 2000. Taşhan, where there is a big courtyard in the middle and there are shops around the courtyard, is one of the most important historical buildings in Istanbul. There is a thousand years old cistern at the end of the square-shaped courtyard. The cistern is used as a restaurant today.
